Renewal risk profile
Allegheny's published renewal rules cluster around a 3.0 floor with no major-GPA gating, which is survivable for the typical freshman with steady study habits. The risk is non-renewal due to enrollment status (dropping below full-time), not GPA.

How families lose this aid
- Worrying about a GPA cliff on the Trustee Scholarship
Unusually, the Trustee Scholarship requires NO minimum GPA to renew — it renews automatically for up to four years on continued full-time, degree-seeking enrollment. (This is family-favorable, but the award still ends if you drop below full-time.)
- Missing the application deadline and losing automatic Trustee consideration
The Trustee Scholarship is automatic only if you apply by Early Decision (Nov 1), Early Action (Dec 1 or Feb 1), or Regular Decision (Feb 15) — apply late and you forfeit automatic consideration.
- Skipping a campus visit before senior-year February 15
Visiting Allegheny before February 15 of your senior year earns a $4,000 Visit Grant ($1,000/year) — waiting too long to visit forfeits it.
Renewal questions families ask
- Is there a minimum GPA to keep the Trustee Scholarship?
- No. It renews automatically for up to four years of full-time enrollment with no minimum GPA required.
Rules that bite at Allegheny
The renewal trip wires we'd flag in a custom playbook, derived from Allegheny's own tier rules and not generic advice.
- renewalAllegheny College Trustee Scholarship: renewal floor that quietly knocks awards out
Renews automatically for up to 4 years of full-time enrollment at Allegheny (or an Allegheny-sponsored off-campus study program). NO minimum GPA is required to renew — only continued full-time, degree-seeking enrollment. A single rough term can end a four-year award here without warning if the GPA floor isn't met cumulatively.
How Allegheny compares across our verified dataset
- 247 of 272 verified schools publish at least one four-year renewable merit award.
Allegheny is one of them. The cohort minority (25 schools) only awards one-year scholarships, which means the four-year value families assume on a brochure quote isn't guaranteed at every school.
