What families often miss

  1. BYU-Pathway is explicit that it does not provide U.S. Federal Financial Aid or Veterans' Education Benefits, and its tuition-discounts page says U.S. citizens working toward a degree 'are not eligible for federal loans, Pell Grants, VA benefits, or other third-party scholarships.' Families used to the FAFSA pipeline get nothing here — the discounts and low per-credit price are the entire aid model.

  2. The tuition-discounts page contradicts itself: it says students 'may search and apply for private scholarships' but also that U.S. citizens are not eligible for 'other third-party scholarships.' Until the aid office clarifies, do not assume a third-party award can be applied to your account (third-party payments are also barred entirely for Portuguese Program students per the catalog).

  3. Both tuition pages state: 'Tuition rates shown are for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Other students pay 25% more.'

  4. Online degree students must apply at the beginning of their program, be registered for courses at least three days before each semester starts, and reapply every two years. The catalog adds that 'the percentage of tuition discount awarded may change each block based on worldwide need' — your 50% can shrink.

  5. The reduced tuition rate ($86–$107.50/credit U.S.) is 'automatically given to every student who starts their degree through PathwayConnect — and you keep the lower cost for your entire degree program.' Starting on the advanced path forfeits that locked-in lower rate (the catalog notes per-credit cost varies by 'preferred/advanced path').

  6. BYU-Pathway publishes only per-credit tuition and milestone totals (e.g., bachelor's degree $7,052–$8,815 before discounts). No housing/food/COA budget exists because the program is fully online; PathwayConnect has no textbook or course-material fees, but degree courses after PathwayConnect 'will have some additional fees for textbooks and materials.'

  7. Both the Heber J. Grant discount (degree students) and the Returned Missionary Scholarship require being registered for courses at least three days before the semester/block begins. Late registrants can lose the discount for that period.

    BYU-Pathway's combined application 'is always open' with six block start dates per year. For the fall 2026 starts: Block 5 — apply by August 24, 2026 (starts August 31, 2026); Block 6 — apply by October 19, 2026 (starts October 26, 2026).
