Cal Poly Pomona
Decision sheet

California · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

Cal Poly Pomona is a low-cost CSU campus with NO automatic, stats-based merit grid — every institutional scholarship runs through one competitive application (the Bronco Scholarship Portal, Oct 1–Mar 2), and the only named awards with published dollar amounts are CSU-system scholarships ($4,000–$15,000) tied to a major, an academy, or financial need.

Selection beyond grades and scores. These awards are not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read each award's selection rules, application steps and dates. Meeting a minimum is not an award offer.

Awards to discuss

First 3 of 5 recorded awards, in chapter display order. This is a selection, not a ranking. Read the full chapter for all awards. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Howard C. Christiansen Endowed Scholarship

$6,000 per year (four awarded) · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Eligibility: Engineering majors only; apply in spring through the Bronco Scholarship Portal

Renewal: Page states awards are made 'for the academic year'; no multi-year renewal terms published.

Other terms: Competitive, not automatic. Restricted to engineering majors. Apply via the Bronco Scholarship Portal in the spring. CSU systemwide / campus-administered award.

Hampton Scholars Scholarship

$4,000 per year (four awarded) · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Graduates of the California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS); apply in spring through the Bronco Scholarship Portal

Renewal: Page states awards are made 'for the academic year'; no multi-year renewal terms published.

Other terms: Competitive, not automatic. Eligibility is narrow: CAMS graduates only. Distinct from the $9,000 'Hampton Scholarship' that is a named tier inside the CSU Trustees' Award — do not conflate the two.

William & Janet Lahey Art Education and Visual Arts Scholarship

$10,000 (one award) · Published award terms

GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Eligibility: Art education / visual arts students (the page also references post-baccalaureate teaching-credential students); apply in spring through the Bronco Scholarship Portal

Renewal: Page states one award 'available for the academic year'; no renewal terms published.

Other terms: Competitive, single award per year. Field-restricted to art education / visual arts.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: Outside scholarships only trigger an aid adjustment if total aid would exceed the cost of attendance (or the student's aid eligibility cap); below that ceiling, awards are not displaced.

The research date is not a guarantee that a policy still applies. Confirm current amounts, deadlines and conditions with the school before making a financial decision.
