Renewal risk profile

ENMU's renewal bar is achievable for steady students but isn't generous. Most awards require a cumulative GPA in the 3.0–3.4 band plus full-time enrollment. Audit the strictest tier on this school's list before assuming the four-year value is locked in.

  • Green and Silver Presidential Scholarship: 3.0 GPA
  • New Mexico Freshman Academic Scholarship (In-State grid): 3.0 GPA
  • Freshman Hound Housing Room Grant: 3.0 GPA
  • Freshman Academic Scholarship (Out-of-State grid): 3.0 GPA
  • Texas 135-Mile Tuition Waiver: See notes
  • Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE): See notes
  • Freshman Competitive Waiver (Out-of-State): 2.5 GPA
  • New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship (state-funded): 2.5 GPA
  • New Mexico Legislative Lottery Success Scholarship (state-funded): 2.5 GPA

How families lose this aid

  • Treating the Green and Silver Presidential Scholarship as a guaranteed full ride

It is competitive (only 10 awarded annually), requires a separate application on file by March 4, and covers tuition, fees, meal plan and a DOUBLE residence-hall rate plus $1,500/semester — not full cost of attendance, and not West Campus Apartments or San Juan Village.

  • Expecting NM Opportunity + Lottery to cover the full cost of college

Combined, they 'cover, but not exceed, 100% of tuition and fees' (up to 18 credit hours) — they cap at tuition and fees, not housing, food or full cost of attendance.

  • Counting on four years of the Freshman Academic Scholarship at the lowest stat tiers

On both the in-state and out-of-state grids, the lowest tiers (3.0-3.49 GPA, or 20-21 ACT / 1030-1090 SAT) are marked 'First year' continuation only — they do not renew for four years.

Renewal questions families ask

Rules that bite at ENMU

The renewal trip wires we'd flag in a custom playbook, derived from ENMU's own tier rules and not generic advice.

  • renewalNew Mexico Opportunity Scholarship (state-funded): renewal floor that quietly knocks awards out

Renewable until the student meets degree requirements or reaches the maximum time frame; recent graduate learners up to 3.5 academic years; maintain 2.5 cumulative GPA and required hours. A single rough term can end a four-year award here without warning if the GPA floor isn't met cumulatively.

How ENMU compares across our verified dataset

  • 69 of 751 verified schools publish a top renewal tier requiring 3.5+ GPA or major-GPA gating.

ENMU is one of them. Calibrate year-one academic load against the renewal floor, not just freshman survival.

  • 669 of 751 verified schools publish at least one four-year renewable merit award.

ENMU is one of them. The cohort minority (82 schools) only awards one-year scholarships, which means the four-year value families assume on a brochure quote isn't guaranteed at every school.
