Ferrum
Decision sheet

Virginia · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

DRAFT: Ferrum publishes no merit grid at all — its GPA-based Merit Grant amounts are unpublished — but headlines the Panther Promise (free tuition for Virginia VTAG recipients with an EFC of $1,000 or less who live on campus) and even pays a renewable Visit Grant just for touring campus.

Selection beyond grades and scores. These awards are not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read each award's selection rules, application steps and dates. Meeting a minimum is not an award offer.

Awards to discuss

First 3 of 4 recorded awards, in chapter display order. This is a selection, not a ranking. Read the full chapter for all awards. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Merit-Based Grant

Amount not published · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

GPA: Based on cumulative GPA (no cutoffs published)

Eligibility: Undergraduate students; transfer students' merit is based on their previous school cumulative GPA. The financial-aid page notes that 'In order to receive your final merit award, an official transcript must be submitted.'

Renewal: Recorded as renewable. Full renewal conditions are not recorded here; request them from the school.

Other terms: Ferrum publishes no amounts, GPA bands, or renewal terms for this grant on the grants page. The aid process page indicates merit is awarded through the aid package after acceptance. Do not assume a grid exists.

The Panther Promise (Free Tuition for In-State Students)

Full tuition · Published coverage or package

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Qualifying students are recipients of the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) who have an estimated family contribution of $1,000 or less and choose to live on campus. FAFSA required.

Renewal: Recorded as renewable. Full renewal conditions are not recorded here; request them from the school.

Other terms: Need- and residency-gated, not merit-based — included here because it is Ferrum's headline full-tuition award. Three gates: VTAG receipt (Virginia residency), EFC ≤ $1,000, and on-campus living. Renewal terms are not stated on the page.

Visit Grant

Amount not published · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: New and transfer students; award based on the date they visit campus.

Renewal: May be renewed for an additional seven semesters, provided the student remains full-time and degree-seeking.

Other terms: An unusual award: granted for visiting campus, with award size tied to visit date — visiting earlier appears to matter, though amounts are not published.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

The research date is not a guarantee that a policy still applies. Confirm current amounts, deadlines and conditions with the school before making a financial decision.
