Renewal risk profile

Jarvis Christian's renewal bar is achievable for steady students but isn't generous. Most awards require a cumulative GPA in the 3.0–3.4 band plus full-time enrollment. Audit the strictest tier on this school's list before assuming the four-year value is locked in.

  • Freshman Academic Excellence Scholarships: See notes
  • Presidential Scholar: See notes
  • Transfer Academic Scholarship: 3.0 GPA
  • Academic Pathways Scholarship (APS): See notes

Renewal terms by tier

  • Freshman Academic Excellence Scholarships

    $4,000-$8,000

Entry requirements: Academic Honors 3.00-3.19 ($4,000); Dean's Scholar 3.20-3.49 ($6,000); Distinguished Scholar 3.50-3.79 ($8,000); minimum 3.00 unweighted GPA to qualify GPA

To keep it: The scholarships are renewable at the end of each academic year, for up to three (3) years, as long as the student maintains academic excellence. Renewal requires a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and enrollment in a minimum of 15 hours per semester; if the GPA drops below the original scholarship level the award is reduced to the lower tier, and below 3.0 all scholarship benefits are lost.

  • Presidential Scholar

    Cost of tuition/fees/room/board

Entry requirements: 3.80 – Rank in Top 10 of class GPA

To keep it: Same renewal terms as other Academic Excellence awards: renewable up to three (3) years with a cumulative 3.0+ GPA and 15 hours per semester; a GPA drop moves the student to a lower-tier award amount, and below 3.0 all benefits are lost.

  • Transfer Academic Scholarship

    $4,000-$8,000

    Entry requirements: 3.0 = $4000; 3.2 = $6000; 3.5 = $8000 (cumulative GPA) GPA

To keep it: The alumni page states the academic scholarship 'is awarded to first-time freshmen or first-time entering transfer students' and 'The award is automatically renewed, as long as the above requirements have been met during the previous two regular semesters' (cumulative 3.0 GPA, 15 hours per semester).

  • Academic Pathways Scholarship (APS)

    $500 per semester

To keep it: Continues each semester as long as the student enrolls in and passes fifteen credit hours each semester, remains continuously enrolled throughout the four years, and remains in good academic standing each semester.

How families lose this aid

  • Letting your GPA slip below your entering scholarship band.

Per the alumni page, if a student's cumulative GPA drops below the original scholarship level, 'the University reserves the right to reduce the scholarship amount to the appropriate level. If the recipient drops below a 3.0, he/she will lose all scholarship benefits.' This is a hard 3.0 cliff plus a tier-by-tier reduction.

  • Not claiming the scholarship in the fall semester.

The criteria state 'Awards must be obtained during the fall semester, Failure to claim the award during the fall semester will invalidate the scholarship.' A spring start can void the award.

  • Enrolling in only 12 credit hours (normal full time) instead of 15.

Academic scholarship awards are 'contingent upon the required cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and the enrollment in a minimum of 15 hours per semester' — more than the usual 12-hour full-time minimum. The APS $500/semester rebate also requires enrolling in and passing 15 hours each semester and continuous enrollment.

  • Reading 'Presidential Scholar' as a full ride.

The award is listed as 'Cost of tuition/fees/room/board' — the page does not say it covers books, transportation, or personal expenses, which are part of full cost of attendance. It also requires a counselor recommendation and (per the catalog) prior approval, not just a 3.8 GPA.

Renewal questions families ask

What is the scholarship deadline?
No specific application deadline date is published on the pages reviewed. The alumni academic-scholarships page does state that 'Awards must be obtained during the fall semester, Failure to claim the award during the fall semester will invalidate the scholarship,' and that scholarships are awarded annually based on the availability of funds. Ask the Scholarship Office for the current application deadline for fall 2026 entry.
Are Jarvis academic scholarships automatic if I have the GPA?
No. Recipients 'come from a competitive pool of students based on the academic profile and details submitted in the application,' an application for an academic scholarship must be on file, and a written essay on 'Why Attending Jarvis Is Important to Me?' is required. Renewal, however, 'is automatically renewed, as long as the above requirements have been met during the previous two regular semesters.'
How long is the scholarship renewable?
The scholarships are renewable at the end of each academic year, for up to three (3) years, as long as the student maintains academic excellence — a cumulative 3.0+ GPA, a minimum of 15 hours per semester, good academic standing, and good citizenship. Dismissal from the University for any reason invalidates the scholarship.
What if my GPA isn't 3.0?
Per the alumni page, a student demonstrating academic excellence without the required GPA may still apply but must submit additional documentation plus the essay/video. The catalog also says students who attend the Early Start Summer Program (ESSP) without the necessary GPA can earn a $4,000 scholarship for the upcoming fall by earning a 3.0 at the end of ESSP.

How Jarvis Christian compares across our verified dataset

  • 669 of 751 verified schools publish at least one four-year renewable merit award.

Jarvis Christian is one of them. The cohort minority (82 schools) only awards one-year scholarships, which means the four-year value families assume on a brochure quote isn't guaranteed at every school.
