Linfield
Decision sheet

Oregon · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

Linfield awards automatic-consideration academic scholarships (eligibility starts at a 3.20 weighted GPA, amounts not published) plus an invitation-only on-campus exam competition worth $12,000-$20,000 and half-to-full-tuition National Merit awards.

Selection beyond grades and scores. These awards are not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read each award's selection rules, application steps and dates. Meeting a minimum is not an award offer.

Awards to discuss

The 3 awards in this school's research. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Linfield Scholarships

Amount not published · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

GPA: Eligibility begins at a 3.20 high school weighted GPA, determined at the time of admission

Eligibility: Based on academic record including grades and strength of schedule; admission application used to determine eligibility — no separate application; awarded regardless of financial need; complete application by the priority deadline (February 1) for priority consideration

Renewal: Awarded semester-by-semester for the first eight semesters of full-time attendance (12+ credit hours/semester); students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for renewal.

Other terms: No dollar amounts or GPA/amount grid are published for this core award. Linfield may convert the award to a Linfield Endowed Scholarship 'for the same award amount and with similar renewal criteria.'

Linfield Academic Competitive Scholarships (Scholarship and Visit Weekend)

$12,000-$20,000 · Published range

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Invitation only; department-sponsored exam competitions on the McMinnville campus; submit application for admission by December 1 and indicate exam interest on the Common Application

Renewal: Each award is distributed equally over eight semesters of full-time attendance (e.g., a $20,000 award pays $5,000 per year for four years).

Other terms: NOTE: the total award ($12,000-$20,000) is spread over four years — a '$20,000 scholarship' is $5,000/year, not $20,000/year. May be combined with one of the other academic scholarships. Participants who enroll also receive a $1,000 Visit Weekend Participation Award. The page's example dates ('applying fall 2023... December 1, 2022') are stale.

Linfield Merit Award (National Merit Finalists)

Half tuition-Full tuition · Published coverage or package

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: National Merit Scholarship Corporation Finalist; must list Linfield as first-choice college; must be eligible for a college sponsorship through National Merit

Renewal: Guaranteed through the sophomore year and renewed for the junior and senior years if the student maintains a 3.35 Linfield cumulative GPA, is a full-time student and applies for renewal of financial aid in a timely manner.

Other terms: Half tuition on a no-need basis; up to full tuition only WITH sufficient financial need — the full-tuition version is need-dependent.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: Outside scholarships reduce loans and/or work-study first; institutional grants are only reduced if required to prevent an over-award.
