Marquette
Decision sheet

Wisconsin · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

Jesuit university in Milwaukee with one automatically-awarded merit scholarship (the Père Marquette Award) for every full-time admit plus a small set of competitive higher-tier programs (Lovell Presidential, Burke Scholars) gated by separate application.

More than one award path. Some awards use published academic thresholds. Others have different selection criteria. A score chart does not describe every award at this school.

Awards to discuss

First 3 of 4 recorded awards, in chapter display order. This is a selection, not a ranking. Read the full chapter for all awards. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Père Marquette Award

Tier-based scholarship; amount not publicly listed (Marquette directs families to a scholarship estimator). · Published award terms

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

Eligibility: All full-time first-year applicants are automatically considered. Varsity student-athletes and second-bachelor's degree earners are not eligible. Specific dollar tiers are delivered through Marquette's scholarship estimator rather than published as a stat-banded ladder.

Renewal: Renewable each semester of a four-year (eight-semester) program as long as the recipient remains full-time and in good academic standing within their college.

National Merit Scholarship

Award amount not publicly listed on the overview page; Marquette is a participating National Merit institution. · Published award terms

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

Eligibility: Awarded automatically to National Merit Finalists who name Marquette as their first-choice institution with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Renewal: Recorded as renewable. Full renewal conditions are not recorded here; request them from the school.

Michael R. Lovell Presidential Scholarship

Full ride — tuition, fees, housing, and food (up to 4 awards available) · Variable or qualified amount

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

GPA: Preferred minimum 3.8 GPA

Eligibility: Must be admitted to Marquette before applying. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and community service through volunteerism and leadership.

Renewal: Renewable through the standard four-year undergraduate program subject to maintaining program requirements.

Other terms: Marquette's top competitive scholarship. Only up to 4 awards per cohort. Application deadline February 1.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: Outside scholarships first stack against unmet need. They begin displacing institutional aid once the total either exceeds tuition (for tuition-restricted awards) or exceeds total cost of attendance (for the full package). Marquette is explicit that merit awards can be cut when the combination tops these caps.
