NJIT
Decision sheet

New Jersey · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

NJIT automatically considers admits for institutional merit awards expressed as 'up to tuition' or 'tuition minus other tuition-based awards,' so amounts are coordinated against each other and capped at the student bill rather than published as fixed dollars.

More than one award path. Some awards use published academic thresholds. Others have different selection criteria. A score chart does not describe every award at this school.

Awards to discuss

First 3 of 6 recorded awards, in chapter display order. This is a selection, not a ranking. Read the full chapter for all awards. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Faculty Scholarships

Up to tuition (minus other tuition-based award) · Variable or qualified amount

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

Eligibility: Awarded to freshmen on behalf of the NJIT faculty; must apply for admission to be considered (no separate application).

Renewal: Four-year scholarship (three-year for accelerated students; five-year for Architecture students). Renewal requires continuous full-time enrollment, minimum 3.0 GPA (3.2 for Honors students), and Satisfactory Academic Progress. May be reduced when scholarships plus other awards exceed charges on the student bill.

Other terms: 'Up to tuition MINUS other tuition-based award' — coordinated against other tuition awards (anti-stacking). May be replaced in future with equal-value donor funds.

Dean's Scholarship

Amount not published (a prescribed amount of tuition and fees) · Published coverage or package

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

Eligibility: Awarded based on academic achievements; no separate application (awarded at admission).

Renewal: Four-year scholarship. Renewal requires continuous full-time enrollment, minimum 3.0 GPA, SAP, adherence to the University Code on Academic Integrity, and completion of the FAFSA. If criteria are not met, only one chance to appeal.

Other terms: Funds a prescribed amount of tuition and fees (specific dollar amount not published on this page). FAFSA required for renewal; one appeal only.

National Merit Scholarship

Tuition & fees (minus other tuition-based awards) · Published coverage or package

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: National Merit Scholarship Corporation finalists; U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; took PSAT/NMSQT in the specified year; enrolled full time.

Renewal: Four-year scholarship. To maintain eligibility, must be enrolled full time and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Other terms: Purpose is to cover tuition and fees MINUS other tuition-based awards (coordinated/anti-stacking).

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: Awards are coordinated against each other and capped at the student bill. Tuition-based awards (Faculty, National Merit) are paid 'minus other tuition-based awards,' and any combination of scholarships and other aid exceeding actual charges triggers a reduction (over-award correction).
