Norwich
Decision sheet

Vermont · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

DRAFT: Norwich guarantees a GPA-based Academic Award at acceptance — up to $23,000-$30,000/yr for Spring/Fall 2026 — but its aid is governed by unusually strict packaging rules: all aid is capped at billed charges, ROTC repackaging strips academic awards, and 'up to' amounts shrink when outside awards arrive.

More than one award path. Some awards use published academic thresholds. Others have different selection criteria. A score chart does not describe every award at this school.

Awards to discuss

Academic Awards (Presidential / Provost / Trustee / Dean's / Academic Recognition) — Spring 2026 to Fall 2026

Up to $23,000-$30,000 · Variable or qualified amount

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

GPA: Tiered, recalculated GPA using college-prep classes: Presidential up to $30,000 (3.60+); Provost up to $28,000 (3.40-3.599); Trustee up to $27,000 (3.0-3.399); Dean's up to $25,000 (2.550-2.999); Academic Recognition up to $23,000 (by Admissions recommendation)

Eligibility: Guaranteed immediately upon acceptance to a residential degree program; transfers after spring of first year use college GPA

Renewal: Per year for four years; 'These awards are reviewed on an annual basis,' and institutional aid is subject to modification for SAP, registration status, change in lifestyle or major, and receipt of outside aid.

Other terms: CRITICAL: every tier is 'up to' — 'Students who do not receive outside scholarships are typically eligible for the maximum value... All institutional awards are subject to modification depending on the combination of awards.' Outside/tuition-based awards can reduce the academic award below the maximum.

Eligibility: New students majoring in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, neuroscience, math, or physics; competitive (students 'compete' for the NSF-funded award)

Renewal: Per year, $60,000 total over four years.

Other terms: Explicitly additive: 'offered in addition to other Norwich-funded financial aid'; usable for tuition and fees.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: NU Merit scholarships are tuition-only awards: merit funds plus tuition-specific outside resources may not exceed tuition and fees for the year, a ceiling below full cost of attendance; need-based grants are packaged separately.
