Old Dominion
Decision sheet

Virginia · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

ODU runs a holistic merit model — incoming freshmen are auto-considered (no separate application) and matched by a committee to academic and endowed scholarships, with no published GPA/test dollar grid.

Selection beyond grades and scores. These awards are not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read each award's selection rules, application steps and dates. Meeting a minimum is not an award offer.

Awards to discuss

The 3 awards in this school's research. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Academic / Merit-Based Scholarships (Office of Admissions)

Amount not published · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

GPA: No published cutoff; 'Generally, recipients have earned at least a 3.4 grade point average and are full time, degree-seeking students.'

Eligibility: Must be admitted. Incoming freshmen are automatically CONSIDERED based on academic performance; financial need not required. Selection by a university scholarship committee; students matched to endowed scholarships using admissions application, transcripts, and FAFSA.

Renewal: Not marked as renewable in this record. Ask the school whether renewal is available.

Other terms: No published GPA/test dollar grid. There is NO separate scholarship application — only the admissions application and FAFSA. New students should select 'YES' to the institutional scholarship indicator on the admissions application. Eligibility/consideration is automatic but an award is not.

Honors College Scholarships (Perry Honors College)

Amount not published · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Awarded to a select group of entering freshmen and transfer students selected for admission into the Honors College on the basis of academic achievement.

Renewal: Students who continue to meet the Honors College requirements after the first year may have the scholarship renewed up to three years (six semesters).

Other terms: Tied to Honors College admission. Renews up to three years (six semesters), NOT four years. No dollar amount published on the official pages.

International Merit Scholarship (undergraduate)

$5,000-$14,000 · Published range

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Qualified international undergraduate applicants.

Renewal: Renewable up to four years.

Other terms: ODU states it is 'Unique among public research institutions' in offering this renewable (up to four years) international undergraduate merit scholarship; awards range between $5,000 and $14,000 annually.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: Outside/agency scholarships must be reported to financial aid and are considered when calculating the automatic deferment. State veterans' benefits (VMSDEP) are treated as a financial resource and may reduce state grants, university grants/scholarships, federal loans, work-study, and private loans; a student cannot receive both VMSDEP and a state grant.
