Randolph-Macon
Decision sheet

Virginia · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

Randolph-Macon automatically considers every applicant for merit scholarships ranging up to $33,000 a year, but caps all non-need-based institutional awards plus Virginia TAG at the price of tuition.

Selection beyond grades and scores. These awards are not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read each award's selection rules, application steps and dates. Meeting a minimum is not an award offer.

Awards to discuss

First 3 of 4 recorded awards, in chapter display order. This is a selection, not a ranking. Read the full chapter for all awards. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Merit Scholarships (first-year)

Up to $33,000 per year · Variable or qualified amount

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Automatic consideration during the holistic application review process; no extra materials required. No published GPA/test grid.

Renewal: Renewable for up to four years, provided the recipient continues to meet academic benchmarks, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards, and is enrolled full-time at RMC.

Other terms: RMC publishes a Merit Scholarship Calculator (interactive tool; values not loadable in this session) instead of a public stat grid. The COA page's 'True Cost' example uses an average 'RMC Dean's Award' of $31,000.

The Randolph-Macon College Presidential and Trustee Scholar Programs and Dean's Award

$23,000 and up · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Competitive; outstanding students are invited to campus each spring for interviews with faculty. Based on academic performance and potential, indication of leadership, and general merit.

Renewal: Renewable each year provided students maintain the required cumulative grade point average and satisfactory academic progress. Renewal GPA review begins at rising-junior year: Dean's Award 2.0, Trustee's Award 2.5, Presidential Scholarship 3.0 (no review for sophomores).

Other terms: Range stated by the 2025-2026 academic catalog for students entering fall 2025 — one year behind the assigned 2026-2027 aid year.

Transfer merit scholarships

Starting at $23,000 per year · Published award terms

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Automatic consideration upon acceptance; no separate scholarship application required. Based on the academic record received when applying for admission.

Renewal: Recorded as renewable. Full renewal conditions are not recorded here; request them from the school.

Other terms: Transfer admission requires a minimum cumulative college GPA of at least 2.0 (admission eligibility, not a stated scholarship cutoff).

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: Outside scholarships reduce loans and/or work-study first; institutional grants are only reduced if required to prevent an over-award.

The research date is not a guarantee that a policy still applies. Confirm current amounts, deadlines and conditions with the school before making a financial decision.
