Regent
Decision sheet

Virginia · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

Regent stacks an automatic GPA-based merit grid with an automatic test-score 'booster' grid (max $10,000/year combined), plus tuition-only National Merit, NCFCA, Honors, and niche awards — but caps all combined scholarships and grants at 100% of tuition.

More than one award path. Some awards use published academic thresholds. Others have different selection criteria. A score chart does not describe every award at this school.

Awards to discuss

First 3 of 9 recorded awards, in chapter display order. This is a selection, not a ranking. Read the full chapter for all awards. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Freshman Base Merit Awards

$1,000-$5,000 · Published range

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

GPA: 0.00-4.00+ (tiered: Chancellors 4.00+, Trustees 3.80-3.99, Presidents 3.40-3.79, Achievement 3.00-3.39, Royals 0.00-2.99)

Eligibility: Freshman applicants with fewer than 16 transferable college credits completed after high school graduation; on-campus enrollment

Renewal: A student's merit scholarship is automatically renewed each academic year if the minimum cumulative GPA requirement is met, and the student has maintained an on-campus enrollment status. GPA requirements vary by scholarship and can be found in the student's Financial Aid account under Offer.

Other terms: Award decisions are determined automatically from admissions information; no separate application. Annual totals split between fall and spring; unavailable during the optional summer semester.

Freshman Booster Merit Awards

$1,000-$5,000 · Published range

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

SAT: Tiered: 1300+ ($5,000), 1200-1290 ($4,000), 1050-1190 ($3,000), 950-1040 ($2,000), 0-940 ($1,000) · ACT: Tiered: 28+ ($5,000), 25-27 ($4,000), 21-24 ($3,000), 18-20 ($2,000), 0-17 ($1,000)

Eligibility: CLT tiered: 86+ ($5,000), 78-85 ($4,000), 68-77 ($3,000), 60-67 ($2,000), 0-59 ($1,000). Test scores must be submitted by June 1 for merit award recalculations.

Renewal: A student's merit scholarship is automatically renewed each academic year if the minimum cumulative GPA requirement is met, and the student has maintained an on-campus enrollment status. GPA requirements vary by scholarship and can be found in the student's Financial Aid account under Offer.

Other terms: Stacks on top of the Base Merit Award; combined maximum merit award is $10,000 per year. Regent is test optional, but submitting a score increases the merit scholarship by up to $5,000 per year.

Transfer Merit Scholarships

$2,500-$7,000 · Published range

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

GPA: Cumulative GPA at admission, tiered: Chancellors 3.75-4.0 ($7,000), Trustees 3.5-3.74 ($6,000), Presidents 3.0-3.49 ($5,000), Achievement 2.50-2.99 ($2,500)

Eligibility: Incoming transfer students; cumulative GPA includes all prior coursework at all institutions, formatted to a 4.0 scale

Renewal: Renewal terms specific to transfer merit are not stated on the transfer page; general merit renewal language on the freshman page requires minimum cumulative GPA and on-campus enrollment status.

Other terms: Page bases the award on cumulative GPA at the time of admission but does not explicitly state that it is awarded automatically with no application, so automaticOnStats is conservatively false. Updated test scores or GPAs received prior to July 1 can trigger re-evaluation via student-initiated appeal.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: Awards can stack (e.g., Honors stacks with merit), but with limited exceptions no combination of scholarships and grants may exceed 100% of tuition, and university-funded aid applies only to tuition charges. Students must report any outside resources, and existing awards 'must be modified.' The need-based Regent GAP Guarantee Grant is reduced dollar-for-dollar by any new Regent-funded gift aid.
