Renewal risk profile
Salisbury's renewal bar is achievable for steady students but isn't generous. Most awards require a cumulative GPA in the 3.0–3.4 band plus full-time enrollment. Audit the strictest tier on this school's list before assuming the four-year value is locked in.
- First-year Academic Merit Scholarships (Presidential, SU Deans, SU Excellence, SU Achievement): 3.0 GPA
- Transfer Academic Merit Scholarships (Transfer Presidential, SU Deans, SU Excellence): 3.0 GPA

How families lose this aid
- Expecting a GPA/test scholarship grid that guarantees a specific amount
Salisbury publishes only ranges; awards are based on a numerical standard AND the competition of the applicant pool, so the same GPA/test profile can yield different amounts year to year.
- Counting on the Sea Gull Nation (out-of-state) scholarship
It has been discontinued and will not be awarded to new students after 2025-26 — out-of-state students should not budget for it for 2026-2027.
- Letting your GPA slip below 3.0
All academic merit scholarships require a 3.0 cumulative GPA and full-time (12+ credit) enrollment to renew, and there is a maximum number of semesters of eligibility.
Renewal questions families ask
- How much are the first-year merit scholarships?
- $1,000–$6,000 for in-state students and $6,000–$8,500 for out-of-state students. Salisbury does not publish a GPA/test award grid.
- How do I keep my scholarship?
- Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and enroll full-time (12+ credits) each semester; awards have a maximum number of eligible semesters (see the Scholarship Policies page).
- Is the out-of-state Sea Gull Nation Scholarship still available?
- No. It has been discontinued and will not be awarded to new students after 2025-26; only current recipients continue to renew.
Rules that bite at Salisbury
The renewal trip wires we'd flag in a custom playbook, derived from Salisbury's own tier rules and not generic advice.
- renewalFirst-year Academic Merit Scholarships (Presidential, SU Deans, SU Excellence, SU Achievement): renewal floor that quietly knocks awards out
Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA to renew annually; enroll full-time (12+ credits) each semester; limited to a maximum number of semesters (see Scholarship Policies page). A single rough term can end a four-year award here without warning if the GPA floor isn't met cumulatively.
How Salisbury compares across our verified dataset
- 669 of 751 verified schools publish at least one four-year renewable merit award.
Salisbury is one of them. The cohort minority (82 schools) only awards one-year scholarships, which means the four-year value families assume on a brochure quote isn't guaranteed at every school.
