Sewanee
Decision sheet

Tennessee · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

Episcopal liberal arts college in Tennessee with one of the deepest published merit ladders for a small college — a $5,000 to $34,000 EQB Award range layered with named full-ride scholarships (Vice-Chancellor's, Benedict) at the top.

More than one award path. Some awards use published academic thresholds. Others have different selection criteria. A score chart does not describe every award at this school.

Awards to discuss

First 3 of 7 recorded awards, in chapter display order. This is a selection, not a ranking. Read the full chapter for all awards. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship

Full tuition, fees, room and board annually (1 awarded per class) · Published coverage or package

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

Eligibility: Awarded automatically based on Common Application submission. Only one award per entering class — effectively Sewanee's top competitive tier despite being technically automatic on the admission application.

Renewal: Renewable when student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Other terms: Top of the Sewanee merit ladder. Covers the full residential cost (tuition + fees + room + board), not just tuition.

Benedict Scholarship

Full tuition, fees, room and board annually (2 awarded per class) · Published coverage or package

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

Eligibility: Awarded automatically based on Common Application submission. Two awards per entering class.

Renewal: Renewable on satisfactory academic progress.

Wilkins Scholarship

$5,000 in addition to the recipient's EQB Award annually · Published award terms

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

Eligibility: Awarded on top of an EQB Award via the regular admission review. Stacks explicitly: 'in addition to your EQB Award annually.'

Renewal: Renewable on satisfactory academic progress.

Other terms: One of the few small-college scholarships that publishes its internal stacking rule (Wilkins layers on top of EQB).

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: Sewanee documents internal stacking rules clearly (Wilkins layers on top of EQB; Hopper layers on top of any other academic scholarship; arts and choir fellowships stack on top of academic awards) but does not publish a single uniform displacement formula for outside private scholarships. Contact the Office of Financial Aid before counting on layering a large external award on top of a Vice-Chancellor's or Benedict.

The research date is not a guarantee that a policy still applies. Confirm current amounts, deadlines and conditions with the school before making a financial decision.
