Southeastern Oklahoma State Merit Aid

1. Assuming an automatic award stacks with an Honors or Leadership scholarship+

   The 2026-27 freshman sheet states flatly: 'Automatic Scholarships do not stack with Honors & Leadership scholarships' — winning the Honors Program award means the $1,000/semester Academic Excellence waiver goes away.

2. A valedictorian expecting to add Academic Excellence on top+

   The Valedictorian/Salutatorian award ($1,250/semester) is 'Not stackable with Academic Excellence or Stronger Storm.'

3. Missing the January 31 Honors & Leadership deadline+

   Honors Program, PLC, and JMLS applications are due January 31, 2026 — much earlier than the March 1 general priority date — and Honors awards hinge on performance at Honors Day, typically held in February.

4. Out-of-state families thinking the 100% waiver makes SE free+

   'All Out-Of-State students receive a 100% waiver for out-of-state non-resident tuition... In-State/Resident tuition and fees still apply' — the waiver only equalizes you to in-state rates; you still pay in-state tuition, fees, housing, and food.

5. Out-of-state students with ACT 23+ counting the $1,000 Academic Excellence as guaranteed+

   On the out-of-state sheet that award is labeled COMPETITIVE: 'Meeting minimum test score requirement does not guarantee scholarship award. Priority consideration will be given to highest achieving admitted students' — and it lasts only 2 semesters, vs 8 for in-state.

6. Skipping the ACT/SAT because eligibility can be met by GPA+

   For Honors consideration, 'All students must submit an ACT or SAT score, even if their eligibility is based on GPA.'

7. Letting GPA or hours slip after freshman year+

   'For all scholarships, students must maintain full-time enrollment of 12 hours per semester and a 2.5 GPA or higher or as required by the award' — and several awards (Stronger Storm, Former SE Concurrent, OOS Academic Excellence) expire after only 2 semesters.

8. Treating Honors dollar figures as fixed+

   The Honors page warns 'All amounts are per year and may be subject to change based on the availability of funds,' and all Honors Program scholarships are competitive.

Any out-of-state student instantly pays in-state rates; Oklahoma freshmen with ACT 23+ get automatic 8-semester awards with no application; students at ACT 25+/3.5 GPA who apply by January 31 and perform at Honors Day can compete for packages up to full cost of attendance.

Automatic freshman scholarships do NOT stack with Honors & Leadership scholarships, and Valedictorian/Salutatorian cannot be combined with Academic Excellence or Stronger Storm. Exceptions going the other way: the Former SE Concurrent award is explicitly 'in addition to other automatic scholarships,' and SE Foundation general-scholarship cash awards 'may be combined with SE scholarships above.' • What are the scholarship deadlines?

  Freshmen: January 31 for the Honors Program, President's Leadership Class, and John Massey Leadership Scholars applications (the 2026-27 sheets state 'APPLICATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 31, 2026'). The General Scholarship Application priority date is March 1 (March 1, 2026 on the freshman sheets) for SE Foundation scholarships. Applications received after priority deadlines are considered only if funds remain.

• Do I need to apply for the freshman merit awards?

  No application is required for the automatic awards (Valedictorian/Salutatorian, Academic Excellence, Stronger Storm, Former SE Concurrent, and the out-of-state tuition waiver) — but you must be admitted and enrolled full-time by the beginning of the semester and be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

• How much do out-of-state students pay?

  All out-of-state students automatically receive a 100% waiver of non-resident tuition and pay the in-state rate (in-state tuition and fees still apply).

• What does it take to keep an SE scholarship?

  Full-time enrollment of 12 hours per semester and a 2.5 GPA or higher, or as required by the specific award. Most major awards run 8 semesters; some run only 2.

• What is Honors Day and why does it matter?

  All Honors Program scholarships are competitive and 'priority consideration is based upon applicant performance at Honors Day,' typically held in February.
