UAH
Decision sheet

Alabama · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

UAH gives every admitted freshman an automatic, no-application merit tuition scholarship set by a published GPA × ACT/SAT grid — $2,000–$8,500/yr for Alabama residents (full tuition at the top), and a much larger $5,000–$22,000/yr grid for out-of-state students.

More than one award path. Some awards use published academic thresholds. Others have different selection criteria. A score chart does not describe every award at this school.

Awards to discuss

Freshman In-State Academic Scholarship (Alabama residents) — GPA × ACT/SAT grid

$2,000-$8,500 per year (full tuition for 4.0+ GPA with ACT 31-36 / SAT 1390-1600) · Published range

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

GPA: 3.0+ (grid bands: 3.0-3.49, 3.5-3.74, 3.75-3.99, 4.0+) · SAT: 1060-1600 (bands 1060-1150, 1160-1250, 1260-1320, 1330-1380, 1390-1600) · ACT: 21-36 (bands 21-23, 24-26, 27-28, 29-30, 31-36); test-optional column also awarded for 3.5+ GPA

Eligibility: Alabama resident; first-time freshman offered admission to UAH. Award uses ACT/SAT superscore (highest composite from any one sitting). UAH will NOT consider the ACT Science section for 2026-2027.

Renewal: Four-year award (up to eight fall/spring semesters). Renew by enrolling full-time, maintaining a minimum cumulative UAH GPA of 2.5 at the end of each spring semester, and completing at least 24 UAH credit hours per academic year.

Other terms: Fully automatic — no separate scholarship application. Lowest band (3.0-3.49) requires a test score; the test-optional column for that GPA band is blank (no award). Updated transcripts/scores received after May 15, 2026 are not considered for an upgrade. Freshman Merit Tuition Scholarships are for tuition only.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: UAH publishes no displacement or over-award rule for how an OUTSIDE (third-party) scholarship affects institutional merit aid. The Outside Scholarships page is only a curated resource list plus a mailing address for donor checks, and the Scholarship FAQ's outside-scholarship entry only explains where the donor should send the check. How outside awards interact with the UAH merit grid or with need-based/federal aid is not stated on these pages.
