UNE (Maine)
Decision sheet

Maine · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

DRAFT: UNE gives every admitted full-time undergrad an automatic GPA-based Merit Scholarship of $13,000–$28,000 (no application), and layers on a Tuition-Free Program for high-GPA (3.85+), lower-income (AGI under $100K, SAI 0) first-year students who live on campus.

More than one award path. Some awards use published academic thresholds. Others have different selection criteria. A score chart does not describe every award at this school.

Awards to discuss

First 3 of 5 recorded awards, in chapter display order. This is a selection, not a ranking. Read the full chapter for all awards. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Merit Scholarship — Incoming First-Year Students

$13,000-$28,000 · Published range

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

GPA: Based on GPA and academic achievement before enrolling; the page does not publish a GPA-to-amount grid

Eligibility: Full-time enrollment (12+ credits) in an on-campus undergraduate program

Renewal: Merit Scholarships renew for four years of undergraduate study at UNE as long as you maintain full-time enrollment (12+ credits) in eligible coursework with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.

Other terms: All incoming full-time undergraduates receive one; awarded at time of admission with no separate application. No published table mapping a specific GPA to a specific dollar amount.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: UNE lets outside scholarships fill unmet financial need first; if an aid adjustment is required, UNE reduces loans and/or work-study before touching grants or merit aid (loan-first displacement). All outside awards must be reported to Student Financial Services. For the Tuition-Free Program, UNE states outside scholarships in most instances will not affect eligibility.
