What families often miss

  1. The Regent's Award ($9,000) requires BOTH a 3.8+ GPA AND a 28+ ACT / 1310+ SAT. A 3.8-4.0 GPA student without that test score receives the President's Award at $7,000.

  2. EKU states institutional merit awards 'may not be stacked with other scholarships or tuition waivers.' For example, an Academic Common Market tuition waiver makes you ineligible for merit. (The transfer PTK scholarship is the documented exception that IS stackable.)

  3. The Regent's/President's/One Eastern/Excellence/Promise grid is for 'in-state, on-campus, first time freshman only.' Non-residents instead get the flat $12,000/yr out-of-state tuition rate, not the merit grid.

  4. EKU does not accept ACT superscores; the composite from a single test date is used.

  5. ACM participants already receive an in-state-rate tuition waiver, so per EKU's general scholarship policies they are NOT eligible for merit scholarships.

  • Do I have to apply separately for EKU merit scholarships?

    No. For in-state, on-campus, first-time freshmen, 'merit scholarships will automatically be applied to your account. No application needed!' You just need to apply for admission and be admitted. The award is set by your unweighted high-school GPA (and optional test score for the Regent's Award).

  • What's the deadline?

    Official EKU pages cite a March 1 merit-scholarship and admission consideration deadline and a June 1 last-day-to-accept; one school-channel source cites April 15 to receive and June 30 to upgrade. Confirm the exact 2026-27 dates with Big E Central (859-622-2361) before relying on them.

  • Can I combine the merit scholarship with other awards?

    Generally no. EKU institutional merit awards may not be stacked with other scholarships or tuition waivers; an Academic Common Market tuition waiver, for instance, makes you ineligible for merit. The transfer Phi Theta Kappa ($1,500) award is the documented exception that is stackable. How outside (third-party) scholarships and the state KEES award interact with merit is not stated on the official pages reviewed — ask the aid office.
