How families lose this aid
- Reading the scholarship amount as a yearly figure
Emerson quotes merit amounts PER SEMESTER — e.g., Aspire is $5,000-$22,500 per semester ($10,000-$45,000/year), Trustees is $15,000 per semester ($30,000/year). You must double the published number for the annual value.
- Assuming all scholarships share a 3.0 renewal GPA
Most require a 3.0, but the Trustees (Honors) Scholarship requires a 3.3 (3.0 within the Honors curriculum).
Renewal questions families ask
- Are the scholarship amounts annual?
- No — they are quoted per semester of full-time enrollment. Double the figure for the annual award (e.g., Spotlight $3,000/semester = $6,000/year).
Rules that bite at Emerson
The renewal trip wires we'd flag in a custom playbook, derived from Emerson's own tier rules and not generic advice.
- Renewal ruleCreative Circle Scholarship (ECCS, first-year only): renewal floor that quietly knocks awards out
Renewable for up to eight semesters; must enroll full-time, participate in ECCS programming, and maintain a 3.0 GPA. A single rough term can end a four-year award here without warning if the GPA floor isn't met cumulatively.
How Emerson compares across our verified dataset
- 665 of 749 verified schools publish at least one four-year renewable merit award.
Emerson is one of them. The cohort minority (84 schools) only awards one-year scholarships, which means the four-year value families assume on a brochure quote isn't guaranteed at every school.
