Renewal risk profile

Jacksonville University's published renewal rules cluster around a 3.0 floor with no major-GPA gating, which is survivable for the typical freshman with steady study habits. The risk is non-renewal due to enrollment status (dropping below full-time), not GPA.

How families lose this aid

  • Assuming you must apply separately for the main academic scholarship.

The first-year academic scholarship is automatic: it is set by your unweighted high school GPA at the time of admission and confirmed in the official offer letter. The separate applications are for Honors, Jacksonville Commitment, Legacy/Sibling verification, and the Brooks nursing award.

  • Using a weighted GPA to predict your band.

The grid is explicitly based on UNWEIGHTED high school GPA. A weighted GPA can push you into the wrong band in your estimate; a 3.8+ unweighted is required for the top $30,000-$33,000 band.

Renewal questions families ask

Is the academic scholarship automatic?
Yes. JU determines the first-year academic scholarship from your unweighted high school GPA at the time of admission across a published six-band grid ($14,000-$33,000/yr). No separate scholarship application is required; the final amount is confirmed in your offer letter.
What GPA do I need for the top award?
A 3.8+ unweighted high school GPA places you in the top band ($30,000-$33,000/yr). The grid steps down to $14,000-$16,999/yr at a 2.50-2.749 GPA; no first-year award is published below 2.50.

How Jacksonville University compares across our verified dataset

  • 669 of 751 verified schools publish at least one four-year renewable merit award.

Jacksonville University is one of them. The cohort minority (82 schools) only awards one-year scholarships, which means the four-year value families assume on a brochure quote isn't guaranteed at every school.
