Renewal risk profile

Robert Morris (PA)'s published renewal rules cluster around a 3.0 floor with no major-GPA gating, which is survivable for the typical freshman with steady study habits. The risk is non-renewal due to enrollment status (dropping below full-time), not GPA.

  • RMU Merit Scholarships — Undergraduate first-year applicants (Fall 2026): 2.0 GPA
  • RMU Merit Scholarships — Undergraduate transfer applicants (Fall 2026): 2.0 GPA

How families lose this aid

  • Expecting your scholarship to grow if your grades improve or tuition rises.

The policy is explicit that academic-based institutional aid 'will not be re-evaluated for future academic years due to increased academic performance or changes to annual tuition charges.' The award is flat for all four years even as tuition increases.

  • Dropping below full-time or below a 2.0 GPA and losing the award.

The scholarships page requires full-time enrollment and 'an overall 2.0 GPA' to keep the award (maximum four years); the policies page additionally requires maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress and limits renewal to 4 years / eight semesters.

  • Counting the merit scholarship toward summer classes.

The policy states 'Institutional scholarship funds are not applicable during the summer semester, unless enrolled in an eligible program.'

  • Assuming the GPA your high school reports is the GPA RMU will use.

The scholarships page notes 'RMU reserves the right to recalculate weighted grade point averages using our internal method for purposes of admission and awarding scholarships,' so your award tier may be based on a recalculated GPA, not your transcript's number.

Renewal questions families ask

Is there a scholarship application or deadline at RMU?
No separate application or deadline is published for the RMU Merit Scholarships. The scholarships page says awards 'are awarded through the Office of Admissions based on official, weighted GPA at the point of admission to the university' and 'Students are notified of their eligibility for institutional scholarships and grants at the point of admission.'
How much merit aid will I get as a freshman for Fall 2026?
Per the published grid: $28,000 with a weighted GPA of 3.8 or higher; $26,000 (3.40-3.79); $23,000 (3.10-3.39); $19,000 (2.70-3.09); $13,000 (2.50-2.69); and $11,000 with a weighted GPA below 2.50.
Do I need SAT or ACT scores for merit aid?
The Fall 2026 merit grid is based only on official, weighted GPA at the point of admission; no test-score requirements appear on the scholarships page.
What do I have to do to keep my scholarship?
Remain enrolled full time and maintain an overall 2.0 GPA (scholarships page); the Institutional Aid policy adds that the award renews for a maximum of 4 years (eight semesters) while enrolled full time and maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress, does not apply in summer, and is removed if you switch to a fully online program.

Rules that bite at Robert Morris (PA)

The renewal trip wires we'd flag in a custom playbook, derived from Robert Morris (PA)'s own tier rules and not generic advice.

  • renewalRMU Merit Scholarships — Undergraduate first-year applicants (Fall 2026): renewal floor that quietly knocks awards out

Full time students may receive the above listed institutional scholarships for a maximum of four years as long as an overall 2.0 GPA is maintained. Fully online students are not eligible. A single rough term can end a four-year award here without warning if the GPA floor isn't met cumulatively.

How Robert Morris (PA) compares across our verified dataset

  • 669 of 751 verified schools publish at least one four-year renewable merit award.
