They stack, but against tuition and fees — not the whole bill. The office stated SMU merit scholarships pay only toward tuition and fees, with combined aid from all sources capped at cost of attendance.   1. Meadows awards are audition-based and variable. Students and families regularly assume a mid-range Meadows number when building the SMU budget, then find the actual audition result is lower. Do not plan SMU affordability against a Meadows estimate; wait for the audition letter.

  2. Dedman Scholars requires a Dedman College primary major. A student interested in Meadows who lists Classics as a secondary interest does not qualify. If Classics is not the genuine primary major, cross Dedman Scholars off the list entirely.

  3. SMU's published outside-scholarship policy is not explicit, and federal COA-cap rules can reduce institutional aid when outside awards push the package toward total cost of attendance.
