Western Oregon
Decision sheet

Oregon · Research checked 2026-07-02 · School research, not an aid offer

The starting point

Western Oregon's Merit Award is fully automatic on unweighted GPA — Oregon residents and WUE students earn $1,000-$4,000/yr and nonresidents earn $5,000-$12,000/yr, with no separate application.

More than one award path. Some awards use published academic thresholds. Others have different selection criteria. A score chart does not describe every award at this school.

Awards to discuss

The 3 awards in this school's research. Amounts retain the original units and conditions; confirm the entering year with the school.

Merit Award — Resident & WUE

$1,000-$4,000 per year · Published range

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

GPA: Unweighted HS GPA grid: 2.75-3.10 = $1,000; 3.11-3.40 = $1,500; 3.41-3.75 = $2,000; 3.76+ = $4,000

Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors who are Oregon residents or qualify for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) rate. No separate application — automatic on admission GPA.

Renewal: Renewal period: 3 years. Must complete 36 credits by the end of spring term with a 3.0 WOU cumulative GPA to continue with the award.

Other terms: Awarded automatically based on unweighted high school GPA at admission. The same dollar grid applies to Oregon residents and WUE students. WOU also publishes a separate, higher nonresident grid (see next tier).

Merit Award — Nonresident

$5,000-$12,000 per year · Published range

Recorded as automatic on academic criteria; all conditions apply.

GPA: Unweighted HS GPA grid: 3.00-3.59 = $5,000; 3.60-3.74 = $8,000; 3.75-3.94 = $10,000; 3.95+ = $12,000

Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors admitted at the nonresident tuition rate. No separate application — automatic on admission GPA.

Renewal: Renewal period: 3 years. Must complete 36 credits by the end of spring term with a 3.0 WOU cumulative GPA to continue with the award.

Other terms: Larger automatic award for students paying the nonresident rate. Students who qualify for the WUE rate use the Resident & WUE grid instead, not this one.

David S. Brody Scholarship

Covers tuition, mandatory fees, food and housing, and books after other gift aid (dollar value not published) · Published coverage or package

Not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read the selection rules.

Eligibility: Incoming students apply at WOU. Award is calculated after other gift aid is applied (a 'last-dollar' style award), so the actual dollar value varies by student.

Renewal: Renewal terms not published on the freshman scholarships page.

Other terms: Separate application required. Per the FAQ, the David S. Brody Scholarship deadline is May 1, 2026 (awarded late May to mid-June). Dollar amount is not published — value depends on remaining cost after other gift aid, so the listed amount is descriptive, not a fixed number.

Ask before you decide

  1. Which entering-year policy and residency category apply to us? What are the admission and scholarship deadlines?
  2. What grades and credits are required to renew, and for how many terms?
  3. How would other school awards or outside scholarships change the offer?

Recorded stacking policy: WOU does not publish a rule that outside scholarships first reduce loans/work-study. The stated policy is a Cost-of-Attendance / financial-need cap: if a private scholarship pushes a student over their Cost of Attendance or financial need, the Financial Aid Office adjusts the aid package. Which aid is reduced first is not specified.
