What makes Creighton different

Jesuit university in Omaha with a deep, published scholarship menu — including two full-ride competitives (Scott and Next Generation Leaders) and a $32k Nebraska-resident tuition award — but no published outside-scholarship displacement policy.

Selection beyond grades and scores

Start with the selection process.

These awards are not recorded as automatic on grades and scores. Read each award's selection rules, application steps and dates. Meeting a minimum is not an award offer.

  1. Read the selection rules

Look for the school's stated criteria and whether an additional application is needed.

  2. Check the application dates

Confirm the current admission and scholarship deadlines directly with the school.

  3. Know what happens next year

Check renewal, credit requirements and how other aid affects the award.

The fine print / Three questions to carry forward

Before you count on it.

Does it apply to us? Confirm the entering year, residency and every eligibility condition.

Can we keep it? Check renewal GPA, credits and how long the award lasts.

Can we combine it? Ask how outside scholarships and other school awards change the offer.

What families often miss

  1. Creighton awards scholarships on a rolling basis after December 1, with decisions typically 4-6 weeks after a completed application. Applicants who submit after the priority date can still receive merit, but the pool shrinks. Competitive awards (Scott, Next Generation Leaders, Ashton Welch) have additional January 10 deadlines that are not extensible.

  2. Creighton names its automatic merit award (Creighton Merit Scholarships) and confirms it is automatically considered, but it does not publish a public GPA/test-to-amount table the way Alabama or Ole Miss do. Forum-sourced anchors are not a substitute for the actual offer letter; build the budget around a verified worst case until you have the award in hand.

  3. Creighton's public consumer-information pages do not publish an outside-scholarship displacement policy. Families who expect to layer outside awards on top of Creighton merit should ask the office directly: 'When an outside scholarship is reported, what is reduced first — work-study, federal loans, institutional grant, or unmet need?' Get the answer in writing before banking on a stacked aid plan.

  4. When a Creighton applicant qualifies for FACHEX or another tuition-exchange program, Creighton's own scholarship is replaced by the exchange award rather than added to it. The exchange can still be combined with need-based grants and loans, but it is not additive to merit. Children of higher-education employees should verify the swap math before committing.

Creighton merit aid FAQ

  • Does Creighton publish merit scholarship amounts?

Partially. Creighton publishes exact dollar amounts for many of its competitive named scholarships (Scott full ride, Next Generation Leaders full tuition, Harper Nursing $40,000, Muchemore $32,000, Native American Merit $32,000, Hixson Business $5,000, Joella Cohen $6,000, Grace Keenan $4,000, Leo Vincent Jacks $2,000, Ashton Welch $2,500/yr, Jesuit HS Recognition $1,000). The general 'Creighton Merit Scholarships' award is listed as 'Varies' with no public stat-to-dollar table.

  • How do I apply for Creighton's scholarships?

Most Creighton awards (including the Creighton Merit Scholarships, Muchemore, Native American Merit, Jesuit High School Recognition, and Leo Vincent Jacks) use the application for admission as the scholarship application. The Scott Scholarship, Next Generation Leaders Program, Ashton Welch History Fellows, Joella Cohen, Grace Keenan, Hixson Business, and Heider Ethics scholarships require a separate application — most with a January 10 deadline.

  • When is the financial aid deadline at Creighton?

Creighton's FAFSA priority deadline is January 15 for the following academic year (for fall 2026 entry, file the 2026-27 FAFSA by January 15, 2026). The scholarship priority deadline for the admission application is December 1. Materials are accepted through April 1 with reduced priority; later submissions are awarded as funding allows.

  • Is there a full ride at Creighton?

Two named awards meet that threshold. The Scott Scholarship covers full tuition, mandatory fees, and on-campus room and board for four years (3.8 GPA, 28 ACT or 1300 SAT, U.S. citizen, business intent, separate application). The Next Generation Leaders Scholarship covers full tuition for four years (3.8 GPA plus two of three criteria: first-generation, financial need, exceptional leadership). Both are highly selective.

  • What aid is available specifically for Nebraska residents?

The G. Robert Muchemore Foundation Scholarship is the most material in-state award: $32,000 renewable tuition, restricted to Nebraska high school graduates, automatically considered for the top 3% academically. Renewal requires a 3.30 cumulative GPA and an annual FAFSA filed by March 1.

How Creighton compares

  • 665 of 749 verified schools publish at least one four-year renewable merit award.

Creighton is one of them. The cohort minority (84 schools) only awards one-year scholarships, which means the four-year value families assume on a brochure quote isn't guaranteed at every school.
